Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the people on here that have so much experience that come in and provide the voice of wisdom:

Ok... if he's talking about a smoothie, then that's one thing. I like the look of the smoothies, but like I said... removing the valance looks like poop to me.
I love the look as well. I'm still undecided. I don't know if I care how much work it is to replace the lip if needed. We'll see.
I have seen bumpers added after a lip was removed by using small brackets, at least there was no rust forming along the non existant lip.

Is this what you Guys are talking about?
Yes. The original poster wants to replace the lower valence with a new one, but is debating whether to remove the seam lip. Your posted photo shows a good example of the smooth look.

We had the valence panel off our 83 mini, and it looked terrible, like a 4x4 from behind. That look works with a Moke, but not on a rounded off car...

I'll tell you this. I removed mine to get to some rust and what-not.. I think it looked like crap. This is just my opinion, but it looks incomplete. And it shows all of the stuff underneath that you're not supposed to see. haha.

Looks like I latched onto the wrong idea from "How to Modify Your Mini." Cool, thanks for the replies!

It's amazing how much damage can be caused to a bumperless rear end when a bumper may or may not have just received a small ding...
You also lose quite a lot of strength with no rear valance - the back end flexes much more easily with it removed.

I'm with keeping the lip too. The smooth-butt bumperless look is cool until it gets dinged or scratched. The Mini bumpers are not much when it comes to collisions (except for maybe the Canadian bumpers), but then again no modern car is either. But the bumper do save the paint and panels from minor dings such as from shopping carts, bicycles, and other daily hazards. Think of them more as rub-rails.

Having to replace bumper lips both front and rear I'd ask you not remove it. I recently returned a mini to a customer who has removed the valence all together. I do not like that look very unfinished. I'm sure others have an opinion and it will differ. The older I get the kinder I am to the little cars. Steve (CTR)

The rear valance on my poor Mini has seen its better days go by. The bumper lip is all kinds of messed up also, so my first inclination is to replace the rear valance with a new one, and then shave the bumper lip off entirely (of course welding the boot floor, valance, and rear panel along that seam). I have also seen Minis with no rear valance, but not sure if I want to go with that look.
Suggestions from the forum? Thanks!
