If you have a 948 that you are positive is originally a Sprite motor, could I get you to take a look and see which pattern of numbers it matches? I have another one that I know is a originally from a Minor, and it looks like my first one.

I don't have a clue but I do have one complete 948 engine from a Sprite and a 950 short block unknown. It seems there must have been a ton of them. Over the years since they were given to me I have not been able to locate a home for them. I have stored them so long I now feel they owe me something for saving from recycle. Steve (CTR)

Anyone know how to read a block casting number to glean anything important from it? One of my recently acquired 948s (engine number 9MUH395251, according to the head) reads
2A799
21087 16
on the right side front, and
950
4 11 B
on the right side left.
It has the standard Morris Minor pulley, complete with crank start. I'm guessing that this is a fairly late (1960/1961) 948 engine.
The other, with no engine tag, reads
950
130
towards the center of the right side and
2A
799
<diamond symbol>
towards the front.
This has the Sprite pulley (no crank start). Anyone able to provide any insight besides "It's a 948 of some kind" on the second block? The different castings have to mean something, but I don't know what.
