Great article reference Doug.

Our horn and column worked fine when I took it off the road, but it is time to reassemble it.

Someone had modified the inner column by adding a second cancelling bolt, so hopefully it goes together with the new rack nicely.

All MK1s should have the horn push. If the emblem on the wooden floor is one piece and doesn't have the horn push then it's a MKII. I believe the MK1 and MKII openings are the same  and the only difference is that the MK1 has the hole for the screw which retains and grounds the horn push to the column.

The picture on the wooden floor is claimed to be a MK1 Morris Mini steering wheel center, not horn push.  This is what I don't understand.

Yes, mine has the flashing light on the end of the signal stalk.

Doug, I currently have an aftermarket Autotencia steering wheel, and I've recently repaired or replaced all of my components such as the slip ring, wire, insulator, sleeve, spring, etc, as well as rebushed my steering column.  All of that is new.  My horn and turn signals work fine.  What is NOT in my steering wheel that is pictured in the link you posted is the spring piece that sticks up into the steering wheel with the snap ring on top.  I just have a single wire that connects to the underside of the horn push (grounding wire).

It sounds like the best way to go about it might be to buy the $58 horn push kit, and find the Morris logo used on Ebay or something (although these seem to fetch between $50 and $75 each for the logo piece alone).  As said, my components are all in as-new condition.  Just need to make an original steering wheel work, and I don't have any of the center parts yet.

Thanks.

See the pictures in the thread linked below.

You will need the slip ring, slip ring brush/wiper, slip ring to shaft insulator, wire, spring, and spring insulator sleeve.  The short wire with the spring passes down the center of the column, exits out the side of the shaft, and contacts the inside of the slip ring.

I do not know what is required to attach the horn button logo piece to the contact kit.

I'm looking for a Morris horn push for a MK1 steering wheel, and I'm finding that two things are coming up:  1. Steering wheel center only (no horn push)

2. Horn push.  I've never taken an original steering wheel apart, so I'm confused as to why it seems some wheel centers do not have the 'push' component for the horn?

They both physically look the same from the top view.  I don't have a bottom view of the center, but brass contacts can be seen in the bottom view of the horn push.

Question:  Are MK1 steering wheel centers like the following picture simply a horn push with the spring and contact that makes the horn work missing?

Steering wheel center

-or like MK2 Minis where the horn I belive was on the turn stalk, did some MK1 Minis not have a push button horn?

This is a steering wheel center/ horn push, which looks the same, but has the contacts and spring underneath:

Horn Push

Our host sells a reproduction of the above horn push without the logo.

So my question is:  If I find an old steering wheel center with the logo (top photo), what else do I need to make the horn work?
