Here is the most remarkable part, other than a small hole (smaller than a quarter) there is no rust. You can see that I have ground a bit of surface rust from the floors, but all the other paint is factory.

Could someone tell me where the commission number plate is supposed to be? Is it above the radiator on the inner wing?

I can do that, while the bumpers were long gone, the reinforcements on the body are still there as well as the extra anti-intrusion piece on the doorsill.
I must declare ignorance to the "recall cap", not sure what that is.

It has the tow hooks on the front and rear sub-frames as well, they are in the bead blaster as we speak, I will post photos of those as well.

What a nice car.  If you can, maybe catalogue the extra panels and stiffeners in the car for the bumpers, door clips and stuff.  hotos of the really nice tow hooks would be good as well.  Does it have the recall tank -those use GM fuel caps.

We opted to keep it the "same" colour, but we have brought it up a shade on the vibrant scale, the original colour is Sandglow.

It took  the usual amount of fiddling, but the fender, inner fender and nose panel eventually came together as a cohesive unit

So my good friend and LeMons teammate found a very interesting mini and has asked that we get it going for him. It is a 1979 Canadian Spec Mini with 75,584 km (47,000 miles) on the clock!
The story goes, it was purchased new in Victoria by a woman who drove it until 1983 when it was involved in a fender bender to the driver's side fender. It was parked and, I assume was destined to be repaired.
The repair never happened and the car changed hands and the new owner promptly cut off the bent fender, bought a new fender and nose panel and... parked it in the garage for another undetermined amount of time.

This spring, upon realization that he would never get around to doing the repair, it was sold to my friend, who brought it to me. We started tearing into is about a month ago, we oiled up the engine and put iin some fresh gas and she fired right up with good oil pressure, then prompty died, because of the gumed up carb. that was enough to tell us how to proceed. We pulled the engine and subframe and started the big clean.
