No.
The Clubman starter is exactly the same as all other Mini starters.
The pre-engaged Metros had the solenoid in a different position, and that won't fit.

Your Clubman GT unit probably has a 3.44 final drive which will work just fine. Speedo should be easy fix, the 3.44 is probably the most common ratio.... About the only thing that won't fit is the Clubman Starter, it might hit the grille...

My car is titled as a 1980. But the VIN is for a 1984. I believe the 1275 was in a 1979 Clubman. I'm getting the complete engine with radiator, starter, alternator etc. and the tranny. I guess I'll have to try to figure out what R& is in it and compare it with the 998 that was in my car.

All assuming your car is from "1980" - and the offered engine /box are original to the GT....
Over the years bit and bobs changed so you may need to do a little adjusting. If both units "look" the same (especially around the bottom/rear of teh gearbox) you should be fine.
Whatever, the swap will work ... you just may need to fiddle around a bit...
Cheers, Ian

If the final drive is the same then no worries. Or just swap the pinions. //www.guess-works.com/Tech/ratio.htm go here to play with pinion ratios. It's a relatively easy swap. Are you getting the complete take out with radiator and everything? If so, should pretty much drop in.

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about the speedo. I'll see if my buddy has one in the car he took the motor out of.

Should be a straight forward swap like said.....unless your's happens to be an auomatic.....then there are a couple others things needed.

Upgrade the radiator. Change the upper radiator hose and bracket. Use the carb needle from the GT. You'll need to do something about making the 998 speedometer compatible with the GT's final drive and former wheel size. Without doing some digging, I don't know what that would be.

I just purchased a 1980 Mini saloon with a questionable 998 motor/transmission. A frined has offerred to sell me a 1275 motor/transmission from a 1979 Mini 1275 GT Clubman. Since I'm new to the Mini world I thought I'd better ask those who know if this motor/transmission setup will drop into my car without difficulty?
