i hope and pray that the MMW 2016 will be held in Socal, people just don't know how beautiful south california is, any state that lies beside a body of water is a real tourist spot., to name some, california, florida, concorde etc. , i can imagine how boring the states that is in the middle and in between states like mississipi, chicago etc. imo,lol
guys pls let me know if this plan will push thru, i will definitely ship my mini to california to attend my first ever MMW experience.
i will ship my mini thru Texas Carribean Shipping and it will delivered to the Camp pendleton Dock somewhere in Oceanside California, it'll take about 4 days.

Well, like I said; what do I know about hotels? But I do know the rarity of Autocross venues.
Good news and not so good......So far I have not found a AX venue that we can sign up for until Nov/Dec time frame, Eltoro has a major redevelopment agenda and has put all the SCCA clubs on notice that future autocross events are on hold, pending the development/planning/ construction progresss. Qualcom is still viable under a lottery process held near year end, but weekday use may not be subject to the lottery, as those days are normally open. Finally there is the Delmar race track,(horse track), that sometimes has parking lots available for events, again, later in the year for applications. The good news is we are starting to get volunteers for organizational work; Hotel/banquet booking, Web site building, and other non specific work. I will announce when we have our first Organizational meeting so that anyone else who wants to join in the effort can hopefully attend.

Both Mikes; there are literally thousands of hotels in So cal, most with banquet rooms; Suitable car show locations are virtually everywhere that parking lots and parks exist. There are just a small handfull of decent Autocross venues available in So Cal and fewer that can be booked easily; Most that I know of are virtually surrounded by hotels, parks and parking lots to choose from; Seems a no brainer to me, which venue needs to be locked down first. The last Arizona MMW in Prescot valley is a good example of not following that approach, resulting in the autocross event being relegated to a nearby abandoned pot-holed lot, burried in up to two inches of dirt, broken glass, rusty nails and even live bullets. Maybe Autocross is not the main draw it once was, when we were all younger, but maybe if the club elders made an effort to include more Motoring competition events, there would be more interest for the younger crowd to get involved. What do I know? Who is up for driving fifty to a hundred miles in Ca freeway traffic, to get from a random hotel location to a presentable autocross venue.
Well things might be different in your area, but we have a lot of hotels as well, but trying to find one that you can block book 80 rooms with a good rate, have secure and outdoor parking, and organize a reasonable priced banquet means you have to do this well in advance.. we also have to sign contracts and put deposits down to be able to secure the space.. just passing on my experience..

Either that or its an old face doing a vey good job of chain-yanking at Robsters expense.
Oh I know that's not Robster. I know Rob in person and sometimes I make fun of him on text about how he's messin up the forum and he just laughs at the whole thing. This dude however have developed a split persona and it is sad but not healthy. Could be dangerous actually.

yup, that's where the recent Comic Con event was held.
from T&C, turn right on Hotel Circle N.,then right to Fashion Valley drive(you'll pass the Mall) then when you see the Chevron in the corner, turn left, go aaaall the way, you will hit the seaworld drive, now turn left,, drive all the way down, you'll see the Seaworld on your right., now exit to Mission bay drive that's where the parks and nice beaches(spelling) are....,, you're lucky if those migratory Sea Lions are out in the shore.
Heads up: if you intend to hold a huge gathering with a parade and all that, a permit is required. otherwise, police will disperse you, they don't care, i had a bad experience with that.

Town and Country Hotel near Hotel Circle is nice and not too expensive, $70-$80 non peak season. plus it has a VERY wide isolated parking lot in the back which can accomodate medium to large sized trailers., it's the favorite Hotel of several Grand forum Meet Ups
hmm just sayin'
The Towne and Country has an adjacent convention center so they are definitely set up for larger groups that are hosting events in the vicinity. The hotel backs up to Fashion Valley Mall if I'm not mistaken. This location is very close to Qualcomm if that were to be the venue used for the Autocross event. It is also a good starting point for a rally and close enough to Balboa Park, Downtown/Embarcadero area, Seaworld, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach. Our guests could head out and explore all of the great things we have to offer in San Diego when not busy doing Mini things.

You're right Rick, I did take the first VTEC to Rockford and drove at the BlackHawk Farms Receway , Yellow over Blue but I think I only hit 121 before the front of the car tried to float.... Moke pullover was in California.... and that was the Balckhawk Auto Museum.. might of been the San Ramon meet in 2005. It's all a blur of fun times and good friends at all the meets..

Mike,
I have the Group Photo from MMEMW 2004 in Rockford, Blackhawk Farms etc....you drove the Honda powered sedan (orange over blue) from Victoria...we are standing with you in the photo. I remember asking you how the Mini went on the interstate section in Montana with no speed limit (then). As I recall, you said the Mini started to shake at 130 mph.
What I think you are saying is that these Mini Meets are a blast, full of fun, adventure with an opportunity to meet with old friends again and...to meet new friends!
I agree!!
Rick

I remember attending MMW banquet at the Blackhawk Auto museum.. it was a great venue.. the top cars from the meet were parked out from of the museum to greet the attendees as they came for the dinner.. we had a great day of running around the Blackhawk Raceway as well.. a fun meet.. too bad we can't do that all again! Except my tounge lashing from the local police when he pulled over the Moke after thinking the driver was reading while driving.. he walked over to the LH side and started to ask my son for his drivers licence (who was reading the map), and then realized the driver was on the other side of the car! He was a bit embarrassed, but didn't stop him for reaming me out for crossing a solid line..

MOASF discussed this at our meeting Sunday. We are currently busy planning our Annual British Car Show on a new date and at an amazing new venue, The Blackhawk Auto Museum. Unfortunately we are unable to host MMW16 but, we are willing to help out with what we can. Please let us know as planning develops including sponsorship options. My email is in my profile.
