Don't cut it if you don't have to. If you keep the swap within sanity levels and go with either a D or B series, you should be able to fit it without extending the front end, which is the only good reason for the flip front.

This good to know.
I was looking at Minitec's front end (I think it is the same one sold by Mini Mania)

The instructions look to be using the top shock mount as the hinge mount. It looks like it would be pretty sturdy, but I suppose dentures are too.
The thought of using metal does seem more appealing to me.

I have a fibreglass front end in the yard. I plan on making a wall hanging out of it.
I had a fibre front end installed on a car years ago....and it was crap.
The steel flip front ( if you need a flip front ) is a much better idea. There is a hinge available that will flip it up and away, towards/above the windscreen...much better than tilting forward.
Whichever one is use...brace bars in the front will be needed

reclar:
Rmoving the steel front of my mini for a fiberglass front and easier access was a bad decision for me.
The steel front is a regid part of the body. A fiberglass front is a weak decorative add-on.
You will need to design a mounting/hinge system to make the fiberglass front work.
I do not know what is available now, but 40 years ago, there were several different fiberglass fronts on the marked with different quality in the construction.
Those differences mean differences in fit, finish and durability.
The original steel body can resist a minor impact that could destroy a fiberglass front and engine parts behind it.
The only good reason for a fiberglass front I know of is to save weight on a race car.

I am in the planning process of swapping to a Honda engine and was wondering about the difference between a fiberglass flip front and using the existing mini bonnet and fenders.
What I understand is the fiberglass front end is 4" longer and easier access to the engine, but other than the cut in the fender flares along the A-post, I do not see any noticeable differences.
Can anyone me give any input on other differences and the pros and cons of using one over the other?
