Yes, earth means ground. A simple clean up of the ground connections might do wonders. I've seen cars sit much longer and still work, and I've seen cars go wonky over night. Make sure your fuses are all good and seated well. I assume you checked the oil and either replaced it or at least topped it off.
Some times a good warming up and trip around the block will help. Make sure you have brakes before you go!

- Thanks for the info Ian i was considering alternator might look into that more closely. Also by earth connections in "american" does that mean grounding out a circuit?

Cold cranking Amps (CCA) is just a measure of the capacity of the battery. Higher CCA will provide power longer in adverse (long lay over/cold weather).
It has nothing to do with the ability of a new, fully charged battery to power your car. If the engine won't start then a higher CCA battery will keep cranking longer/allow more starting attempts before it dies.....
I would be looking at earth connections.
The red light usually indicates a lack of oil pressure it should go out when the engine starts. There should also be an orange light for ignition. This will come on when you turn the key and go out as soon as the engine starts. If it stays on with the engine running it shows that the generator/alternator is not charging the battery...
However, by the sound of things, I think you would benefit from a visit to an auto electrician rather than messing around with trying this and that....
Cheers, Ian

Hey,
Ive got a 92 Mini
its been sitting for 2 years so the battery died, i went and bought a new battery with different cranking amps, it was pretty close to the same cranking amps as the last one i cant remember if it was above or below ( i think below)
Anyways, i have a red light on my dash (i think that ignition?) also the radio stopped working. When i bought the car some of the dash lights didnt work, not sure if its just a bulb problem or something else. Also my blinkers dont work anymore. Im wondering if im just having a electrical problem caused by the battery. Also my fuel gauge will only go to half full.
Any help would be great thank you
