Phoning the DMV from the UK and being placed on hold for their legendarily long time in the queue could get very expensive very quickly...

Whee and charrison:

The link in my post doesn't work for me either - Minimania's software messes with it.
Copying the line of text into a new browser window does work for me. (Note added to my post)

If an age related plate has already been issued then your chum is definitely facing an even steeper uphill battle to try and regain the original plates.  We refrained from re-registering the Radford until we were 99.999% sure of getting the original numberplates back.

Without a 1970s V5 and a continuous trail of US paperwork you are very probably going to struggle.

Are the Cooper Register involved ?

It works in Firefox here for me here in Canada. Might just be a UK issue.

With Bill's link with the correct spelling, the "https : //"  (ignore the extra spaces) gets added in, as well as a state security leader. Minimania's software edits out the prefix. (Annoying!)
Try it this way:
https://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/

Note: clicking this link directly doesn't work for me either. Copying the line of text into a new browser window (Firefox) does,

As I say, it doesn't work for me or the owner, throws up 404 errors, "that page doesnt exist", "access denied" etc.

Maybe it doesn't work with Firefox, Safari or Android in the UK.

The owners going to phone them.

The link works for me, both directly from Bill's post and if I copy/paste its text into my browser's URL box.

Thanks anyway - it still doesn't work, throws up various 404 errors etc.

Maybe it doesn't work in the UK.

The yellow or White pages, were the old phone books, still exist on line. White was for home numbers, Yellow for business.

I've discovered that the car came from Godfrey, Illinois, and I now have the full address.

The owner is going to try calling the local DMV - presumably the nearest would be in the nearest big place like Granite City or East St Louis ?

He's also going to try calling the old owner if he can find a phone number.  Whats the best "Directory Enquiries" service in the US ?

Thx all.
