Maybe a suppressor to remove electrical noise from the radio???? Things to consider:
What is the other end of the wire connected to?
What colour was it?
What wires are left?
It may be that (with the wire removed) the alternator is no longer charging the battery ...something that won't be obvious until the battery goes flat....
Cheers, Ian

The wire came off the capacitor that is attached to my alternator. I took the wire off and it didn’t seem to have any affect on the car. Is it needed? I have an ‘87 mini.
