Almost.
The seller only pays either $99 or $349 to list their vehicle or item(s) with the two listing options provided.
The buyer pays 5% on top of the 'hammer price' from a minimum of $250 to a max of $5000.
So in this case it would be $2125 on top of the $42,500
BAT is a nice retirement gig. Sit and let the money roll in.

.
Simple recipe for Excitement:  Take 1 Classic Mini. Throw in 1590cc's of engine. Add 5 gears. A dash of 94 octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan and finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Mini VTEC conversion and full satisfaction. Motor on!

No I'm wrong! It was the "AU" on the engine tag that was hand stamped depending to which assembly plant the engine went to.

I read recently that the "L" on the VINs were hand stamped. White tag is an LH drive import & the other is an ex-British Gas Moke RH drive with  no "L".

I never heard of re-stamping a VIN tag as tampering, as long as all the characters go back onto the new tag in the correct order. But maybe certain countries or jurisdictions frown upon that and consider it serious. I can see if you added or subtracted characters (VIN washing) or swapped the VIN from one car to another being wrong. But VIN tags will get aged/worn/ruined by other work, involved in accident damage, thrown out in bodywork/fab stages, etc., which is why so many Mini parts suppliers (including our host) supply new ones, and character stamping punches.

I'm no Moke expert but the VIN looks legit. That gen and make usually started with A-AB1L-then 6 numbers. I'd say the VIN tag was probably replaced at the time of 'refurbishment' 20 years ago. The tag looks newer. Usually they're pretty much worn and solid bare metal with the stamped characters, without any black on the tag. By the sounds of how roached the car was before refurbishment, I doubt if the VIN tag survived to be that new looking since 1968.
If someone really wanted to critique it, I'd say when they restamped it, they messed up where the second hyphen went. Normally it goes A-AB1L-six numbers with the hyphen after the 'L', but they have this one as A-AB1-L895587 with the hyphen before the 'L'. But that's splitting hairs. If it's all there it wouldn't matter,...at least to me. Not sure if the DMV would flip out over that or not.
Now at $23K with 3 days left

Whats the collective wisdom on the subframe rear mounts?? Were the early ones like that?

My later model had a much more substantial boxed steel section which the subframe bolts to. This setup would seem to place excessive pressure on a thin flat sheet..

Cheers, Ian

They hardly ever go for as high as $50K. Although it is off to a great start at $18,500 with 6 days left. I'd estimate around $30K

No worries P_H_D_.
I'm sure Robin's Moke, AKA "Barb" must be better than the one in the original post.
I hope it goes to a good, caring owner.
