I once had a weber carb on the front end and a free flow muffler on the back end. The noise was so LOUD. It was like sitting in a tin can with stereo noise.

On the dyno my 1275 with a single HS4 just starts to see a reduction in horsepower at about 5500rpm. On the other hand, the torque curve is flat down to 2000rpm which is as low as the dyno would record. If you don't plan on running over 5500rpm I would recommend a single HS4 with an intake manifold that has correctly sized runners for an 1 1/2" SU and a Cooper Freeflow manifold. Also a 3.1 final drive works well with this combination. Lots of fun.

+1 to what PhatHeadDonnie said. A 1275 can work with a 1.5 inch carb but may run out of breath. If the previous owner went as far as a Weber carb, it is likely there are other significant tuning upgrades.

HS6 seems a little excessive for trundling about....

DCOEs in either 45 or 40 are quite OK. A properly tuned 45 on a decent manifold will get you 35 mpg in normal usage and allow room for filters. And will stay in tune for ever.... (as will the SUs when done properly).

Maybe just leave it alone until you decide whether you like it or not??

Cheers, Ian

Thank you all for the replies.  I Googled DCOE carb and clicked on images and that appears to be what the minis have on them.  If the one I purchase has a DCOE on it I'll swap it for an HS6.  Just local driving, no freeways.

Though it looks like there is limited air intake for a mini since it is so close to the firewall.  Though I do know they put webbers on minis.

Thanks again.

Engine is fitted with a Weber DCOE of some description.

Pretty common carb for use on modified engines where top end performance is more important.

Looks like a side draft Weber.

It has been a little over five years since I purchased my last 1275cc mini from Japan. They always had an SU 1 3/4" carb.   Now I'm looking at purchasing another in the 1990 thru 1994 range.  Not interested in an SPI or MPI, I'm a carburetor kind of guy.  Now when I look at the engine bay of most of the mini's for sale in the year range I'm looking for, they have some carb that I'm not familiar with.  Please scroll through the pictures on the below link until you come to the engine bay. Can someone enlighten me?
