The majority of 1275cc Sprites & Midgets used the cross flow radiator. Initially, these cars had emissions control equipment that required an iron thermostat housing, 12G1445. But because most folks no longer run the emissions gear on these cars as they are exempt from current smog rules, the lighter all aluminum version is a great option - especially for those running aluminum cylinder heads. We've had these great reproductions made ourselves. Fits Sprites and Midgets from 1968-1974. Note: this ALUMINUM thermostat housing was originally for cross flow radiator systems outside of the United States that did not have a boss for the smog air pump like US Spec cars. If you have a US Spec car with the emissions control system still intact for originality's sake, use the US Spec CAST IRON housing, U-12G1445.

Question:
Will this product be available at a later date?
Answer:
Hard to say. This housing was only on the Non-US cross flow Spridgets. The US Spec cars used the cast iron housing with the boss to mount the smog pump. You may want to check in the UK as that's where it was used originally. Most of the time items like these come in and out of stock over the years. I wouldn't think it's gone forever at this point as it's a fairly integral part.

Question:
Howdy, I have a 1972 Midget and seem to have lost my thermostat housing. I will not be installing the air pump, so when replacing it I hope to get the version without the bracket for the pump. Are you able to get the 12G1902 part, or could I hack the bracket off of the U-12G1445? Thanks
Answer:
Hi ,

No need to hack the boss off - it will work without the smog pump connected just fine.

We're looking to have the 12G1902's made - just waiting on a sample as I type.

FOLLOW UP QUESTION: Hey thanks for the reply. I know I wouldn’t need to cut it off, but I’m going for the clean look. Are your 12G1902s going to be aluminum or cast? Any ballpark ETA? Safety fast!

FOLLOW UP ANSWER: We're looking to have the 12G1902's made - just waiting on a sample as I type.  They're going to be aluminum, just like the the originals. Hopefully we'll see them by Spring 2021.
