The later Minis (those after 1976) have a single bolt at the top of the front subframe to attach it to the body. Between the subframe and the body the factory installs a thick piece of rubber to isolate noise and vibration. This it does but it also can cause the whole thing to be a little vague and imprecise. After time this rubber also degrade to a point where it is can be downright unsafe.
