The 3rd motion (or main shaft) as used on the 4 sync transmission prior to 1979 all had a 13.97mm OD on the end that accepted the nose (pilot) bearing. This main shaft is pretty indestructable except at this end where the little pilot bearing rides. Close inspection will often reveal that the case hardening is going away and thus the only cost effective solution is to replace it!
