The MINI Intelligent Battery Sensor assesses the current quality of the battery. The IBS is equipped with its own control unit and is a part of the battery negative terminal.

The IBS regularly (cyclically) measures the following values:

• Battery voltage
• Charging current
• Discharge current
• Battery temperature

The software in the IBS controls the functional procedure and communication with the DME. During vehicle operation, the data from the IBS are sent via the bit -serial data interface (BSD) to the engine management. The DME will modify the charging profile based on the age and condition of the battery. When the battery is replaced, the new battery needs to be registered so the IBS data can be reset.
