Question:

I have noticed that when I rev the engine while stationary, I can hear a definite rattle from under the cover of the timing chain. Is it too late to use the tensioner tool? Or do I now have to replace whole chain, plastic guides, gasket, etc? In which case will I have to remove engine to do so?

Answer:

If there is a rattle, it is hard to know what is causing this. It can be a tensioner issue, worn guides, or maybe a timing chain that has stretched.
The timing chain can be serviced without removing the engine.
