This unit is a little pump/sensor that measures fuel vapor emissions from fuel system. If your gas cap seal is faulty or you have any fuel system pressure leak, this pump runs to maintain pressure in the system. Normally it is not supposed to run. When it runs it sets off the Check Engine light. (One of the potential failures for error code P0456.)

Check your Gas Cap first before you replace this unit.
