K&N Engineering, Inc., requires cleaning the intake system’s air filter element every 100,000 miles. When used in dusty or off-road environments, our filters will require cleaning more often. We recommend that you visually inspect your filter once every 25,000 miles to determine if the screen is still visible. When the screen is no longer visible some place on the filter element, it is time to clean it.

RIVERSIDE, CA - No other car has captured the automotive world's attention like the new Mini Cooper S. BMW has retained the essence of the original Mini and combined it with the latest safety and performance technology. The tightly packaged engine compartment of the supercharged, four-cylinder 1.6L engine presented a challenge for K&N designers, but they came through with a Typhoon® Short Ram intake system that virtually eliminates inlet restrictions, ensuring an abundant supply of cool air to the supercharger. Dyno tests have shown up to an 8hp increase at the drive wheels on some test vehicles, a healthy 7% increase in power with no other changes.
K&N's Short Ram Typhoon® intake system (Part # 69-2021) replaces the Mini's OE air filter and intake system. The combination of a K&N RX filter element, a high-flow XStream™-style air flow cap and a mandrel-bent 6061 intake tube designed for smooth laminar flow provides impressive airflow capability. The RX filter is a dual velocity-stack design and features oil-impregnated, cotton-gauze/screen construction. It can be cleaned and re-oiled with a K&N recharger kit. Other K&N exclusive features include 4-ply DuPont® Nomex® reinforced silicone high-temperature hoses to resist heat and maintain flexibility. Custom stainless-steel barrel clamps are used for outstanding durability, corrosion-resistance and clamping force.
