The MINI Eaton supercharger uses a 'lifetime-lubricant' and is not included in the MINI factory regular maintenance schedule. However, we recommend that the supercharger be serviced every 60k to 80k miles. A sealed lubricant can and will degrade over time under the harsh conditions in the engine compartment.
For the following Cooper S models:
2002-2006 R53 MINI Cooper S Hardtop
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper S Convertible
We recommend you service the supercharger when you have other major engine service since the supercharger needs to be removed from the engine in order to service the unit and there is a lot involved to do this. Here is an article on how to remove the supercharger. This kit includes the supercharger oil, gaskets and seals that should be replaced when servicing the supercharger.
This kit includes:
- 2 bottles of Eaton approved supercharger lubricant oil
- Aftermarket value priced Supercharger Inlet gasket
- Aftermarket value priced Supercharger outlet gasket
- Aftermarket value priced O-rings (x2) for the water pump
The supercharger fluid is used in the nose compartment where the drive gears for the pulley are located and in the rear compartment where the water pump drive gears are located.
The Supercharger nose gear (pulley side) takes 4.9 oz. and the rear side water pump gear takes about 1.4 oz - as specified by Eaton. Basically, with the supercharger on the motor, you need to use a syringe to suction out all fluid and fill with new as specified. Tighten the reservoir plugs to 8 ft-lbs.
