The CVT Continuously Variable Transmission is driven by a metal belt between two drums with variable diameters. Friction from the belt turns the drums which means small microscopic particles of metal can be generated from the metal-to-metal contact. This is the reason for the transmission filter - to catch these metal particles and minimize the wear and tear on the internal moving parts in the transmission. This is why you need to replace the transmission oil and filter!

Fits the following Cooper (non-S) models with the CVT automatic transmission:

2002-2006 R50 MINI Cooper Hardtop 
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper Convertible

This Kit includes the following:

• Transmission Oil Pan Gasket
• TransmissionOil Filter 
• Transmission Drain Plug with Gasket

NOTES:

• When replacing the CVT oil filter, remember to transfer the magnet from the old filter to the new filter
• Tighting torque for the 13 CVT oil pan bolts (M6) are 9 Nm
• Tightening torque for the CVT oil drain plug (M18) is 40 Nm or (M10) is 27 Nm

We recommend you change the CVT transmission fluid every 30K miles or less. The filter can be replaced at every other transmission oil change.
