In reply to Xray's reply I guess he is talking about banning the scammers selling non related junk here.
My reference was to people banned who have a lot to share but a strange way of sharing. Steve (CTR)

Seems there is a scammer on page one all day with no action.

It's like texting with your phone.  Many young school kids get carried away with comments that they wouldn't try face to face.  The same happens on these forums with us older folks.  I know sometimes when I stop before hitting send and read my post I'll reword it or just hit cancel.  But as stated above, when I purchased my first Classic Mini from Calif and drove it home to Oregon, thanks to Jamal and many of you I was able to resolve many issues and enjoy this old car like I dreamed of over the years.

Steve: Thanks for pulling up your Moke thread - good re-reading.

The medicare thread may possibly have started with a Mini subject or about the health problems of a board member.
But it didn't stay there. I think at the end it was locked. It may have been purged or dropped with a board reorg or something. In any case, we don't want to go back there. I only mentioned it in response to scooperman's money-making idea.
I am all for supporting and encouraging Mini discussion, which would include info about board members, such as Dr. Mini, who i hope is recovering well.

Can you tell me what a medicare debate has to do with minis? How many posts and how many views did it get honestly? Go find it and pull it back up. I'll pull one of my threads back to the front page and it will be about minis. Steve (CTR)

Scooperman: with that concept I could get very rich by re-introducing the medicare debate. Remember that one? It raged on for about 50 pages of posts. Nah! We don't want to go there again!

Steve, I dont know what a saved board might be, but hey not my problem.  Just keep track of those who treat you with respect, and do so in kind.  Our host gives us a forum,  play nice on here and you will meet and have interesting discussions with good like-minded folks.  Yes, right in the middle of your conversation some doofus will dump on it.  Ignore them, or have fun with them, whatever.  Until MM starts charging $ for people to play in their sandbox, anybody with a keyboard can jump in.   Wait,  charging people to play in the sandbox...please hold...idea forming...

Hey, let's invent a new thing...I dream up an interesting topic and start posting about it....MM then charges me let's say 10 cents to start a new topic.  But every responder is charged one nickel to respond...MM gets to keep 2 cents and I get 3.  Ohhh I like this idea.  Today I ignore the wankers, if I got paid to deal with them then I could retire...

As far as the no nothing's my father always said " if you listen to a fool what does that make you".  And that is why I just let the dummies go off - I just don't go to that post again.  As far as the posts having to do with the BMW stuff - yawn.  The one thing I really miss is the in depth conversations regarding technical issues with give and take opinions. I will still lurk in hopes of finding that little piece of tech info that peaks my interest but it is not not will ever be what it was last century. You can't replace Elvis and you can't replace the classic Mini.  Kermit

It seems clear I was not aware of anyone but BC's very public banning. It does not matter, weather banned or
leaving due to lack content. The glory days are gone and even now I fail to see post or log in by the people who
provided the worth while content. Credit where due, I have met a lot of people here over the last 20 years. The
bulk of which I keep in contact with via text or email now. I don't tweet, face book or any of the social media.
Time moves on and so should we. Steve (CTR)

PS I recently found out Barry Williams a old time D/S racer and life time mini guy passed away Christmas eve.
I'll see you at the big mini meet in the sky Berry and say Hi to Zip and NJ for me.

I myself have banned more than that. Keeping an eye on members, new and old - Seams like you guys desire more strict moderation. No one wants to be heavy handed. Everyone just play nice and have a good time.

We have 3 (ahem) Minis/MINIs.....but I do not confuse the 2 gens at all.

The 1987 RHD Austin Mini from Wales is a true "Classic" Mini.

The 2009 and the 2012 while 'representative' of a MINI are just Baby Beemers.  There's lots of stuff I can't do with/to them because of proprietary software.  It's very frustrating.  I could literally type pages about this one annoyance. (but I won't bore you all, because I suspect 90% of the folks reading these words are classic owners with no modern binis in their stables and could care less-LOL

Long live the (Classic) Mini !

Like many of you I have been on this board for 20+ years, into the 90s. At times some of us say there’s no moderators however Don has moderated this forum for himself.  You guys are not alone I’ve been banned by Don my account deleted for my own A*** part in this thing. Don does pay attention and there’s been other posters who riled me I think one guy about politics or something I just stopped reading anything he posted and after a bit I took a break myself. After 20 years I would hope we have changed, maybe, maybe not.

Now is to new minis versus old minis I’ve had my mark one mini for 41 years now my thought on the whole new versus old stuff and it went from 60s minis to 80s minis to 2000 minis my understanding was always that the attraction of a mini was because an every day owner could do the work himself. Quite frankly I’m surprised that with a couple little books I’ve been able to keep my car on the road for 40 years. Knock on wood. After Mini’s move through the years in time people could not work on them themselves. Just my thought cheers Scott

Actually, somebody IS moderating to the point of deleting such postings very quickly. When I spot such a post, I flag it (and the poster) as probable spam to warn other members. Somebody deleted the offending posts within hours, if not minutes. The first clue is when the poster posts to one or more older threads whit the phishing link in their post, on the same day they register.

It's true that younger people (and people in general) are going away from forums to things like Facebook for persistent content. But I don't think that's the main problem here, since as one of, if not the, major Mini part vendor in North America, there are always going to be eyes pulled here if it's worth seeing.

Besides declining interest in autos in general, the big Mini specific problem is that the Mini was never a major seller in the USA. There aren't very many of them, relative to other cars, in North America generally. Probably Canada is better off in that respect since they sold them new for a lot longer time than in the USA, and the British influences are probably a lot stronger there (more people per capita who remember Minis when they were new.)

Here, there are still plenty of young people who are into musclecars, VW bugs, and Japanese small cars, because they grew up with them, they're plentiful, and relatively inexpensive for samples you can still drive every day. Not so for the Mini.

The one hope is that MINI owners would eventually take an interest in original Minis, the way owners of liquid-cooled Porsches are now driving strong interest in air-cooled 911 models (and even 912s.) The prices of those soared unbelievably in the last decade, though they're cooling off now.

But that's a long shot, and certainly won't happen if old coots and their washed-up sycophant buddies jump on every MINI thread telling the owners how stupid they were to buy a MINI.

2) When so-called veterans put down newcomers and people who start MINI threads, boot them too. I'll bet that's why some people have been booted recently. If they start up again after creating new accounts, send them packing again.

Telling MINI owners to get a "real Mini" doesn't help our hosts' business at all, and without new blood, most of the current audience will die off of old age within a decade or two, sad to say.

3) Prune out the spam ads for escorts, passports, and counterfeit money promptly, not to mention the phishing replies that stick around for days or weeks. (i.e. someone says on a thread "I agree - check out this <phishing/spam link.>")

It would be tough to revive this given the lack of young people entering the classic Mini world, but it could be at least kept alive if not growing if someone spent as little as 30 minutes a day once a day to check the forum for the above three problems, and clean them up.

Do you think it's a lack of young people entering the classic Mini world, or are they just hanging out in different places to us old fogies? I have to admit this board is so unwelcoming, I probably would be elsewhere if I were starting out new in the Mini world.
