message boards are the quintessential place for this type of car banter.

quintessential = most perfect or typical example...

p.s.. has anyone answered the question about the picture of those two cars.

just be nice about it

I can call my friends names, poke fun at their mustangs - but I wouldn't do that to some random guy at a car meet that I don't know. Not everyone that owns a MINI or Mini are car guys

This is what car guys do. poke, prod, make fun of.  This goes back decades.. Ford vs. Chevy, Mustang vs. Camaro.  Mopar vs. everyone else.. imports vs. domestics and now electric vs hybrid vs ICE engines and yes, even real Minis vs fake Minis and Mokes vs, ummm. Chokes.  As a test please point out which of these cars is a real Mini.

Let's hope so.  I am a newbie and have already received useful info and encouragement- Thanks.  There are too many trolls in this world. Not just here but on the other boards I frequent.  Sometimes it amounts to a 'religious' war- on the boating forums it is the single versus twin debate and don't ever start a discussion about correct anchoring methods..... Here it seems to be LHD v. RHD; Mini v. MINI.    Those who are passionate just aren't going to be moved.  My Mini has been converted to LHD- do I care? Well, since I am left handed, I might be better able to manage the mysteries of the magic wand if it were RHD but otherwise no. I have had both and it just doesn't matter to me.  This is, as my mother would say, a first world problem.  Trick is to just not rise to the bait- and it is bait. Life is too short. Separating the boards between Mini/MINI may make sense for other reasons but not sure it makes for a kinder gentler world.

Best Wishes to all and may your Mini/MINI of whatever variation run smoothly and rust free in the new year.

Kim

anyone caught not "playing nice" will earn a time out

we don't have separate boards for new MINI vs classic mini - it's all under one roof. Guys can argue as much as they want about what a real mini is - just "play nice" and remember some newer members here are just looking for help with the cars that they love.

I first came here after retiring and becoming Mr. Mom for my 2 month old son. In my spare time I visited here
often and was able to move a $40,000 collection of MK 1 parts from a 30 year hobby. I built a classic mini on
the pages of this board. Sharing pics and text from bare shell to complete car. At that time there was a great
group around the world with a common interest and good will toward each other. One could ask for a part and
have three offers in no time at all. The same with offering something for sale. And then along came a disruptor
some one good with a computer and no respect for anyone. Things were said people started acting unkindly
toward each other. Many tried to change the tone but that was not to be. I'm not proud of how I behaved and
as a result I closed my computer and did not return for 5 plus years. When I did return there was this Tony guy
once again a disruptor in our mists. I survived that by following a simple rule. If I saw a post he had replied to
I did not open it. I have come to the conclusion there are people out there who need the attention, maybe it's
something in their past or who knows.? Maybe it's time to let Jim and the new MINI group have this place and
move to the MK1 board where that crap is not allowed. I think it's to late to save the board no longer enough
people here who care. Just what I think. Steve (CTR)
