The 3-syncro transmission for the Cooper "S" uses the 22G1100 laygear. Not only does the first gear end of the shaft typically take abuse but the ID where the bearing rides also will lose its surface hardening. If your gearbox makes a lot of noise it probably is this gear! This same laygear is used in the Sprite and Midget ribcase tranny. It may be the laygear for some Morris Minors if those cars were converted to a ribcase or use a ribcase out of a Sprite or Midget, which is common. The factory Morris Minor ribcase laygear was part 22G83.
