Question:
I am replacing the inner cv pots on my 73 classic Mini with new DAM667A. I received circlips with the new pots. Are these for the driveshaft or the differential shaft? Or, are they good for both? My old cv pot had a plastic washer between the pot and the differential side cover. The shop manual shows this as an oil flinger. Is this necessary or does the new seal, which I am replacing, act as an oil flinger? Thanks for your help. Richard Sampson
Answer:
The circlips will work on either side. Typically you do not need to change the circlip unless you damage one getting it off or on. The plastic oil flinger is not really needed.

Question:
I have a failed CV joint on the right on my Classic Mini. I have one of the repair manuals as a guide. When I try to remove the main castellated hub nut to remove the disk rotor et al, the shaft and nut rotate as a unit. How am I to remove the nut?
Answer:
The most common way is loosen the nut while the car is still on the ground, thus the weight of the car on the tire should stop it from rotating.
My personal preferred method is to use an electric or air-powered impact wrench.
