MINI recommends the following Engine Oils:

• 5W-30 Weight for all MINIS produced up to and including the model year 2015
• 0W-20 LL-14 FE+ for all 3rd Generation MINIs model year 2016 and later

We highly recommend that you change the oil in your new MINI more often than recommended by MINI. In our experience, the turbocharger will experience less issues when the oil is kept clean and changed frequently - we recommend oil change intervals around 5,000 miles or less. This is a small investment reduce the chance of turbo problems!

Oil Capacities:

• Cooper (1.5 ltr engine): 4.25 ltr or 4.49 US Qts
• Cooper S (2.0 ltr engine): 5.25 ltr or 5.5 US Qts

Torque values:

• Oil Filter Housing 25Nm or 18.4 ft-lbs (torque once, back off 180°, then retorque)
• Filter Housing Oil Drain Plug 5NM or 3.7 ft-lbs or 44.5 INCH-lbs (threads must be completely free of oil!)
• Oil Pan Drain Plug 20Nm or 14.8 ft-lbs

MINI/BMW Full Synthetic Motor Oil, for use in all MINI cars with gasoline engines, is a 100% synthetic formula for premium lubrication and superior performance even under extreme low or high temperature conditions. It offers superior performance over conventional motor oils.

For Gen 3 (F56/F55) models, factory recommends FULL SYNTHETIC SAE 0W-20, 0W-40, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-40, and SAE 5W-30. Approved oil types include BMW Longlife-01 and BMW Longlife-01 FE, Longlife-14 FE+,  API SM or superior grade specification.
