A chipped ECU is a modified factory Engine Control Unit (ECU) that has been setup to read a custom programmed 28 pin EPROM with modified timing and fuel maps for MINI engine configuration. We also sets custom options to allow the ECU to ignore signals that the Honda vehicle would supply but are not present in your Mini. Without these modifications the ECU would throw codes and in all probability the engine would not run properly.

I have decided to build a VTEC engined Classic Mini.
I am going to do all the work myself and I am in my 70s so it needs to be a simple bolt together job rather than welding, fabricating, etc.
The engine will probably be a K20A2 although I will be hoping to find one of the 8400RPM K20A engines.
The classic Mini Clubman (1275GT) looks like a good starting point. While it's not so nice looking the front of this is 4" longer than the standard Mini. Are you familiar with converting these models and do they avoid having to cut the whole front off?
If I later get a 4WD drive-train from a CRV, will the gearbox fit the same MTK front subframe and do you know if the K20A2 engine will mate with it OK? (It looks like the kit is for the B series engine)
Can the Honda ECU be modified to work in the mini or is a 'race' ECU needed?
Will it be very difficult to add a turbo or supercharger at some later date ?
Answer:
I want to say up front that any vtec swap will not be a bolt in job, they ALL require some fabricating and are all made for north american engines so if there is any changes for the EU engines then don't take any of our info as gospel. Fun is subjective so I cannot say anything about that, you will have to determine that yourself, but I can hopefully help you with some of the technical stuff. I have never heard of having to cut off the front end of a clubman to put a vtec in but they are tight so I would not be surprised that some people do that, if you have patience you should be able to avoid that step. If you do get an awd k engine it should match just fine since the main change is the transfer case farther down the car, the gearing may be changed but as long as it is not an automatic I don't see why that would be an issue. The honda ecu does have to be reprogramed, or else it will seize up once it gets hit with all the OBD codes, you would need to do something like this https://www.minimania.com/part/MT250120/Vtec-Bd-Series-Chipped-Ecus-Obd1 (not sure if this would work with an EU ecu) Adding forced induction will be a no-go without HEAVY mods to the car, the vtec motors already take up a lot of the bay so adding a turbo or supercharger would be TIGHT, you can't get one into a normal mini, but a clubman may be a possible.
Over all a Vtec mini is not a simple job, it takes multiple people over a hundred hours to change the frame, engine, suspension, and brakes, along with the other race mods you would need. Not trying to say it is not doable, but it's not a walk in the park so I want to warn you before you get in too deep. Hope this info helps!
Question:
I am doing a VTEC conversion on Classic MINI, done pretty much everything but I am having some trouble running a Honda Vtec D series engine.
Engine starts with starting fluid and runs, injectors did not work, have spark with OBD1 ECU P028. In case that I decide to purchase ECU what do you have for sale for a VTEC conversion? Is it required to send existing ECU that I have for the core?
Is the price for the ECU included or do you have supply your own ECU? If I bought the ECU with your wiring harness, is it plug and play from there with a b16a2?
Answer:
Part number MT250120 is for the ECU already chipped. plugs into the harness, the wire harnesses are labeled with tags for what they go to.

Question:
Hello,
I own a 2000 Classic Miniand would like to have a more powerful engine, my question is if this chip will do well with my Mini and how many more hp will I get, also wanted to know if it's difficult to install.
Tks
Answer:
The chipped ECU’s come with base-maps for the specifications you provide. So, there is no blanket HP increase number - it depends on the modifications. ECU is a simple plug and play installation into B series Minis.
Hope that helps - Mini Mania Tech Support
