High Quality Performance Clutch and Flywheel Upgrade kit from OS Giken for your MINI. A performance street / occasional track set-up good for MINIs with up to 300-350 whp, yet delivers with 'stock-like' pedal pressure perfect for daily driving. Works great on the track for 250 whp MINIs.

Giken products costs slightly more than the factory flywheel and clutch replacements, but offers higher quality and durability. The integrated flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate design provides a 'matched' and 'balanced' solution.

2002-2006 R53 MINI Cooper S Hatchback
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper S Convertible

If you need a rebuild kit for these clutches, see Mini Cooper Clutch Kit Overhaul Kits.

For the 2007+ R56 Cooper S Hatchback, 2008+ R55 Cooper S CLUBMAN, and 2009+ R57 Cooper S Converbibles, see G2NMG1640.

NOTE: The stock 'twin-mass' flywheel uses sprung plates to absorb gearbox vibrations. The Giken unit is a single mass unit which may increase gearbox 'noise'.

The STR series single plate clutches were designed for daily driven high performance vehicles. STR clutches provide the comfort of the stock clutch’s pedal feel and the strength of a race ready setup. Whether it be a lap around the track or a trip to the corner store, the STR clutch equally handles each task with ease.

OS Giken Clutches: Through our research and development of high performance engines, we realized the need for the production of higher quality, more durable clutch systems to meet the rigorous demands of race and sport driving. Our OS clutch is able to transmit engine revolutions and output to the drive train without loss. They are made of the highest quality materials and their durability is second to none. Our continual research and development has brought about many improvements and we are confident that our clutches can meet the demands of even the most heavily modified vehicles.

What is the difference between an OS Giken clutch and another companies clutch?
Through years of development and since its first introduction to the public in 1983, OS Giken clutches have always focused on extraordinary durability, drivability, and effective power transmission. In order to properly develop a clutch system to maximize drivetrain performance, OS Giken determined that it would be most effective to engineer and manufacture clutch kits as a clutch/flywheel package. By doing so, a clutch kit can be installed which has already been properly matched to your MINI. Additionally, the design, engineering and manufacturing of OS Giken clutch kits promote improved durability (through friction plate material which is carefully selected and alloyed so that the plates match with the materials of the flywheel and center plate), maintained drivability (through revised leverage mechanisms to provide higher disk pressure while reducing pedal effort), increased longevity (through a superior design and usage of extra manufacturing processes for strengthening).

In 1975, OS Giken made it's memorable entry into the racing world with the its unparalleled Four Valve DOHC TC16-MAII/TC24-B1 engine and firmly established itself as one Japan's most innovative race engineering companies.

Because all of OS Giken's designs and concepts are based on sound engineering and quality manufacturing, their reputation for reliable performance and durability is unparalleled.

Consequently, OS Giken’s drive train products are commonly the first choice for professional race teams in Japan, because in order to finish first you must first finish the race.

When the time comes, an 'overhaul' kit is available.

The clutch operates using brake fluid. It draws off the brake fluid reservoir via a black tube on the side. Fluid flows from the reservoir into the cylinder above the clutch pedal (when there is a negative pressure). Then when the pedal is pushed the pedal cylinder pushes fluid through the tube into the clutch slave cylinder which activates the clutch.
