Classic Mini Cooper connecting rod bearing for the 998cc & some 1098cc engines.

The 998cc engine as used in the Mini was one of the most popular of all as it provided more than adequate performance and yet great fuel economy. The 998cc & 1098cc engines have a main crankshaft journal diameter of 1.75". Bearings are available in various over sizes and grades of material all at various prices.

The 998cc engines produced after 1980 had bearing with a center tang. Choose from size and type above.

"Center Tang" main bearings were designed by Leyland’s engineers to meet a perceived need. It was decided probably by both theoretical calculation and practical test that the turbo Metro engine with its increased bearing loads needed a better bearing, so what they did was remove the oil groove from the bottom bearing shell giving roughly 30% more bearing area.
