I recently installed a new HIF44 + stub stack + K&N filter kit that I purchased 10 years ago. I just finally installed it and got the hood on this past weekend. The K&N filter I have is the 6” X 2 ½” tall assembly. With new engine mounts the outboard part of the filter outer metal cover just rubs on the hood (at certain RPMs), and so I’m looking for a conical one that will work with this carb and stub stack.
I’m using this on a 74 Midget. Will part #SD40 work for this application?

Hi. Not sure. It's usually the top of the carb dash pot damper cap of the HIF44's that touches the inside of the Spridget bonnets. You could give it a try - you could always return it if it doesn't fit - just be careful not to damage the filter in the testing process and save the original packaging. -hope this helps
FOLLOW UP QUESTION: I was able to get myself a low profile dashpot cap from ebay UK (off a Volvo I think) that doesn’t have the top hat. So that removed that clearance issue… They are available new from the SU folks in the UK (Burlen I think) if yall are ever interested in stocking them. I’ll get you the model number if you want it.
It looked to me as though the bolt pattern on the conical filter was off center… is this correct?

And yes, this filter is offset. Note that you may need to remove/replace that hex bolt on the back of the filter. It tends to foul the flush fitment of the filter.

They say for a 1.5 " carb, yours is a 1.75". You might look at SD40.

Will this work for a 1980 MGB with a break booster? We have installed an SU dual carburetor and I was wondering if this filter would work?

While we are not MGB experts, we know a lot about SU's and since the spacing on your carbs are wider than on a Mini, these filters should be fine and fit perfect.PS, this filter works on 1 1/2" SU and not 1 3/4" which would use the SD40 filter.
