Classic Austin Mini chrome Aston looking gas cap pre 1996

Designed to look expensive this chrome overcap only accepts the genuine locking caps WLD100660 or GSS154A that were originally fitted standard by Rover. This cap fixes to the gas tank neck with the locking cap fitting snuggly inside so that both pieces cannot be stolen. Ultra easy to install and looks fantastic. Large 3.5" face! The whole unit installs and opens as easy as a locking gas cap. Does Not fit Twin Points (MPi) as the neck is too short on the tank.

It clamps onto the stock filler pipe. It is easier just to fit a regular cap by itself and the locking type fits really securely.

Question:

I have purchased 2 of these from Mini Mania but I have lost the "baggie" that contains the 3 set screws and the Allan key. 1) Can I buy these separately? 2) Can you tell me the size of the set screws?

Answer:

We don't sell set screws by themselves - and unfortunately, I don't have a thread gauge here to check - it looks like possibly a #8 or 4mm set screw. Best thing to do would be bring the cap to your local hardware store and match a set screw to it.

Hello, this is an "overcap" technically - it's just a cover piece for the regular cap. it slips over the outside of the fuel tank neck and is fastened with small set screws around the bottom edge.

But you still need a proper sealing gas cap - we recommend the WLD100660 locking caps.

FOLLOW UP QUESTION: How does it work?

FOLLOW UP ANSWER: We don't have any videos of it - but the way it works is pretty simple.
1. Remove the existing gas cap
2. Fit the overcap onto the fuel filler neck, and secure with the supplied set screws
3. re-install your existing cap or use a locking one like this: WLD100660

The bottom half of the overcap stays in place, and you flip up the lid to reveal the original cap for removal and fill-up.
