If the starter gears and spring look fine, but the motor won't spin even on a good battery, it could be the brushes. For just a few dollars, you can get a few more years of service by replacing these brushes. The brushes fit Lucas starters 25022 & 25079 with inspection bands and either a threaded pinion for the Bendix gear or a circlip pinion.
