Suspension refinement for Sprites and Midgets.

Front suspension geometry can be altered to improve the cars road holding, further enhancing its cornering ability. Standard settings from the factory are 3/4° of positive camber, approximately 3° of Castor, and 1/8" toe in. Stock Spring rate is 271lbf/in.

The first and most often used step on both street and mild race cars is to replace all the rubber bushes with "Poly" type. Just this simple upgrade will produce a much stiffer, tauter feel to the suspension.

Lowering the front suspension is a must for the road racer and even highly advised for street applications. Lowering the front suspension a small amount for road applications is simply a matter of installing a spring pad lowering kit. Lower and stiffer springs are used by the road racer.

The next alteration to improve handling is to add negative camber to the front suspension. Simply lowering the car will increase the negative camber and thus all lowering should take place first. For road applications 1° negative camber is as much as is required. For mild and simple street use, the simplest method to add a little negative camber is to raise the mounting points of the shocks. A few washers between the shock and the body does the trick.

For serious drivers exact camber can be achieved by the use of shocks with rose jointed arms. These are really only suitable for race applications as the rose joints are not designed to do volumous miles without requiring replacement.

The front suspension swivel axles were designed to take the cornering loads generated from a bias ply 145/70-13" tire mounted on a 3 ½" wide rim. The fact that most of us are running 5" wide rims and at least 165-70/13 sticky radial tires on the street tells us just how over-engineered the stock swivel hubs are! BUT, since even street cars with modern tires and wheels have broken the stock axle, no serious competitor should try racing without replacing them.

Competition swivel axle for all models as used by SCCA National Champions.
Our exclusive axles are machined from 4140 steel. They are then pressed in place to maintain absolute accuracy and finally they are welded for absolute security! They have a very generous radius on the critical edges where breakages occur.

Wheel Spacers
The use of wheel spacers is often the best and only way to fit the wheels of your choice to the car of your choice.. Each kit has spacers for two wheels.
