Took ours for a 400 yard drive to my friendly local mechanic. Having my master cyl looked at for leaks and possibly rebuild. Sunny and about 12C today. Life is tough in a West Coast winter in Canada. :(

Changed the oil and filter in the "S" cleaned the air filters , foam type , and took it for a drive I had not driven this car for a few months since the arrival of the pickup and I had forgotten how smooth this car was to drive.

I Love Saturdays. We fired up the Twin Cam today. What a lovely sound. Just have to wait for the snow to melt. Cheers

Was it common for Jap spec MINIs to be fitted with these(sump guards)?  Were Brit spec MINIs fitted with them at the same time?

Mine was an auto...

I think this bracket may well have been one of the rear brackets for holding a sump guard and maybe the PO removed the guard for an oil change or something
I still have it somewhere if someone has a Jap spec car and needs one of these ( LH ) for any reason.

I have seen a number of J spec cars fitted with sump guards both auto's and manuals although i have seen different designs so i don't know if they were factory installed or not. The uk market cars did not get them afaik.

Hey Willie—that is a nice lift. Is it working well? Where did you get it?

Not quite what I said...

Not looking to 'pick on you', but unless you've replaced your tie rods with a heavy-duty performance variety (21A1091 - Tie-Rods-Adjustable-Heavy-Duty-Pair), I wouldn't be risking breaking the ends off the standard items tie rods - they tend to snap off at the end where the threads meet the solid section under the bushes if the bushes used are too hard.

These bushes, that our host doesn't seem to carry, have served well for many years.  Before this 'kit' was created, I bought both medium-hard and soft bushes and created my own kits - use the hard bush on the outside, the soft bush on the inside.

C-STR627

MSC offers a very nice money-saving full kit - 21A1092

If you don't know the characteristics of the shiny red bushes, well, maybe consider ordering some standard bushes (31G1155) and torque them to the spec noted in your Haynes (Now that you've printed them out, and used a half ream of paper to do so, you've stated that all of the pages were present - and apologised to Dimitri for any hassle you'd given him about missing pages.)

If for some reason you can't find the torque spec in your Haynes, then the Technical pages on this site has them listed.  Another invaluable resource.

I put in new spark plugs and the darn thing still wont start.  I also noticed that my choke is being very difficult and I think it is time to replace it.

Japanese.

Sump guard was was removed weeks ago. I might refit it at some point, but it only ensures that the bottom of the car will impact stuff, then it just smashes into the transmission.

The changes to the front panel for the MPI radiator give ample room to withdraw the canister. My only criticism of the job would be the useless fresh air intake for the heater and its interference when removing the grille when the car has factory driving lamps.

The Jap spec ones are the worse with their sump guards.

I just changed the oil and filter on one of the late mini automatics. These have a cartridge type oil filter and certain care needs to be taken with a few steps. The main O-ring that I removed had been installed carelessly, but it sealed well enough, despite the kink. The hardest part of this job is staying clean and not spilling oil all over, as such three drain pans made for fast clean work.

I believe it was only a limited edition one year colour for the Equinox but i have also seen it on the later MPI sport pack models, you could also get the more popular silver equinox

Hahaha! You're good in nomenclature sir mal, im impressed!, i mean for me, myself, i couldnt distinguish a 1959 mini from 1996 because they all look the same.,, well of course aside from exposed hinges. (In which sir issigonis THOUGHT that it might eat up space if he puts it inside, roll eyes).
is there really a mini named Equinox??  See? I dont even know that.
That mini is from the other forum, i find the color cute thats why i snatched it, thats pretty much how my mini looks like now, hood open, under construction.
