amazing how a hairlike difference in size of the needle affects the performance of the car. These SU carbs are not simple at all, there a lot to determine for it to run perfect.. Haaaay , i wanna try the Weber decoy. It's More precise and can hold tune forever once dialed in. The SU components wears out easily , the shaft wears out, the needle wears out, the jet wears out, the spring loose its tension, the oil in the dashpot disappears, the valve stop wears out,,, haaaaay, im not impressed with su carbs. It's not a precision carb.

Your copy of someone else's photo is cropped and rotated (probably by your cheap phone).
It is obviously the top of someone's head, and I wouldn't be surprised if Alex knew the fellow.
(What IS your weird obsession with body parts, anyway?)

..and i even read that one person even grind the bottom of his dome nut to accomodate the shims (????,,,,i'm like,, omgeeee!)
AND it was to solve the problem that even with NO SHIMS, the joint was too loose. The dome nut was lapped down to provide the correct amount of resistance with the lock-tab washer in place but NO SHIMS. Final assembly for that joint contained NO SHIMS.
