see our Mini Cooper Thermostat Housing Application Guide for fitment and adapter options
MINI Factory replacement OEM Coolant Temperature sensor with harness - used to bypass a faulty temperature sensor that is molded into the thermostat housing. If your thermostat housing has a removable temperature sensor, this adapter will NOT work.
This sensor adapter is used to bypass the defective temperature sensor in the thermostat housing, as part of the MINI Service Bulletin to address the inaccurate engine temperature reading that causes difficulty in engine starting and / or a Service Engine Soon lamp. This harness splits the factory harness and includes a new Temperature Sensor that installs in place of the bleed screw on the Thermostat housing.
If your MINI with the N16 engine already has the G2NME1125 Thermostat and Housing, this modification is NOT necessary. The G2NME1125 has a replaceable Temperature Sensor.
Applicable to the following Cooper and Cooper S models with either the N16 or N18 engines for automatic transmission or N14, N16, and N18 engines for manual transmissions:
08/2010-03/2012 R56 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Hatchback
08/2010-03/2012 R55 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Clubman
08/2010-03/2012 R57 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Convertible
08/2010-03/2012 R58 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Coupe
08/2010-03/2012 R60 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S Countryman
This is the improved temperature sensor to be used to update the older thermostat with sensor.
For factory replacement Thermostat Covers, see G2NME1125-P.
Installation - perform ONLY when the engine is cool or cold:
- Remove the fresh air intake tube and the charge air intake tube from the airbox to the turbo to gain access to the engine harness at the thermostat
- Relieve coolant pressure by removing the reservoir cap
- Remove Bleeder Screw from the Thermostat Housing
- Screw in the Temp Sensor from the adapter into the bleed screw slot, use a screw driver to 2 Nm.
- Slide insulation over the sensor
- Install the two-pin female connector into the thermostat and the four-pin male connector into the engine wiring harness
- Secure the connector with a cable tie to the engine wiring harness
- Secure the wiring from the temperature sensor with a cable tie
- Reinstall the intake components and vent / refill the cooling system
For replacement temperature sensor on the thermostat housing, see Mini Cooper Coolant Temperature Sensor Gen2.
