Mini Cooper Coolant Temperature Sensor Oem Gen2 R55-r57

Mini Cooper Coolant Temperature Sensor Oem Gen2 R55-r57

Mini Cooper Coolant Temperature Sensor Oem Gen2 R55-r57
MINI Factory replacement Engine Coolant Temperature sensor and O-Ring. These Temperatlure Sensors are found on the Thermostat Housing.  Sensor and O-ring available separately.

There are two different types of coolant temperature sensors, a 'straight' type and an 'angled' type. Make a physical inspection of the thermostat housing on your MINI to see which one your MINI requires.

Some models manufactured between 08/2010-03/2012 have the temp sensor 'molded into' the thermostat housing and are not replaceable. If you have one of these housings with the molded in temperature sensor and you don't have any coolant leaking issues around the housing, there is a Temperature Sensor Bypass Adapter to work around the faulty coolant temperature reading. If you have coolant leaking issues, you should update to a newer version of the thermostat housing - take a look at the Thermostat Housing Application Guide to see which one you need.

Fit the following models:

2007-2013 R56 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Hatchback
2008-2014 R55 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Clubman
2009-2015 R57 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Convertibles
2012-2015 R58 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Coupe
2012-2015 R59 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Roadster
2011-2016 R60 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Countryman
2013-2016 R61 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Paceman

Two versions available:

  • 2007-02/2013 uses the 'straight' type
  • 03/2013-2016 uses the 'angled' type

I'm looking to buy a replacement coolant temp sensor. Your info for a 2012 shows a straight sensor but the car has an angled sensor installed. Your info shows that angled sensors came out in 2013. That's the issue. Which one to buy?
I would match whichever sensor you see on the car. If it is angled, then get the angled replacement.
It is possible the thermostat housing in your MINI has been changed to a different version at some time.

Due to some initial design issues, the Thermostat Housing has evolved through several iterations. The Temperature Sensor is also located on the housing, and can be removed on some versions of the housing, and molded into the housing on other versions.
