TECHNICAL NOTES:
Mini Hardtops come with 3 different Spoiler/ options: -The "Cooper" trim level spoiler does not have a pronounced lip and is OK . -The "Cooper S" and "John Cooper Works" trim level spoiler has a Pronounced lip and is not recommended due to the large amount of deflection that occurs around the hatch seam. -There is an optional spoiler with a wing that is OK as long as you route the top straps under the wing and not over it.
Yakima Tube Top
If you bike frame lacks the upper horizontal bar (ie. some ladies bike or full suspension bikes), you may want to consider the optional Yakima Tube Top. The Tube Top attaches between the seat post and handle bar post providing a nice level bar for mounting onto 'hanging' type bike racks. The Tube Top can also be used on standard frames to avoid stress or damage to the top bar on your high end bike (especially if you have shift cables running under the top bar).
The Yakima Story
Here at Yakima we believe in connecting you, your friends, family and all your favorite gear to your desired destination or activity. Doesn’t matter if you are headed out for camping, biking, fishing, to the cabin for the weekend or taking the family on a holiday road trip, Yakima believes that any life adventure, regardless of the destination, creates shared experiences and memories for you, your family and friends. When the road winds back home, the memories and connections with friends and family remain long after the trip is over. Yakima will handle all your gear, freeing up car space, so you can Take More Friends.
Regardless of your destination or adventure, Yakima helps get you, your friends and all your gear there , allowing you to focus on what really matters—creating memories to last a lifetime.
If you have a bike with the step-thru / Ladies frame or bikes with slanted top tubes (like full suspension mountain bikes), you will need the Yakima Tube Top to simplify loading your bike on these racks.
Regarding the PDC - here is something to consider: If you only have the rear PDC sensors that beep at obstructions when backing up - the G3NMA1179 mounting system with the bike loaded will cause the PDC alarm only when the car is in reverse. The same will happen if you install a hitch and use a hitch mounted bike rack.
I have also read that some bmw owners have placed a piece of masking tape or velcro tape directly over the sensor to disable that particular sensor. They did a test in their driveway by putting tape over the sensors and placed a plastic garbage can behind the bumper to test if it disabled the alarm with the car in reverse. Of course, they would tape the sensors only when the bike rack is on the car. In some cases, they only taped the center sensors.
