I have a question about the thermostat housing for my MINI Cooper. It has a straight temperature sensor that screws into the top of the housing.
Answer:
Looks like you have the R58 Cooper S Coupe with the N18 engine built in 09/2011.
If the temp sensor on top looks like it can be removed, you can try replacing it with this, but there is another sensor below that is not removable so this may not solve the issue.
You can also try this bypass sensor which fits into the bleed valve, but again, this may or may not solve the problem.
I would recommend you replace the entire thermostat housing:
The MINI catalog lists the G2NME1129 thermostat housing with the G2NME1141 Adapter A as the correct replacements.

If your MINI has the alloy elbow with the sensor in the radiator hose, that setup has been discontinued and replaced by the new thermostat housing. (Your MINI will probably require an adapter to connect the new design thermostat housing to your existing harness.) You can disconnect the connector at the elbow and tie it off unconnected.
You have the option of leaving that elbow in place (if no leaks are present) or you can replace it with this new hose that eliminates the elbow and sensor.

I'm trying to replace a thermostat housing in this mini and I'm hesitant to order the housing itself because none of them look like the housing that's in the car. Honestly I'm not even positive what the vehicles engine code is because I don't understand the specification between "hard top" and "coupe" as this vehicle is both. I have a MINI Cooper S 1.6L manual N18 R56 5/2012 the problem that does not turn on the cooling fan for the radiator.
