A wiring adapter is not required.

If the temp sensor on top looks like it can be removed, you can try replacing it with this, but there is another sensor below that is not removable so this may not solve the issue.
You can also try this bypass sensor which fits into the bleed valve, but again, this may or may not solve the problem.
I would recommend you replace the entire thermostat housing:
The MINI catalog lists the G2NME1129 thermostat housing with the G2NME1141 Adapter A as the correct replacements.

1. Yes, the thermostat is molded into the housing, so it is one unit all inclusive
2. Sensors are included with the housing.
3. Let me know the last 7-digits of the vin number to identify the correct replacement thermostat, and whether your MINI requires an adapter or not.
If your MINI has the alloy elbow with the sensor in the radiator hose, that setup has been discontinued and replaced by the new thermostat housing. (Your MINI will probably require an adapter to connect the new design thermostat housing to your existing harness.) You can disconnect the connector at the elbow and tie it off unconnected.
You have the option of leaving that elbow in place (if no leaks are present) or you can replace it with this new hose that eliminates the elbow and sensor.

The adapter is necessary for some MINIs because there has been several iterations of the thermostat housing to correct some design deficiencies. These newer housings were designed to fit the newer models which has different electrical harness connections. In order to fit these newer housings in older models with different electrical harness, the adapters are necessary. Otherwise, the electrical plugs would be incompatible. Depending on the production date, the housing and adapter requirements may be different.
I hope this helps.

The correct replacement thermostat housing according to the MINI catalog is our G2NME1129 with the Adapter A G2NME1141
If you have the elbow with a sensor, that sensor is replaced by a new one in the thermostat housing. You can disconnect it and tie off the connector. The new adapter should take care of the connection to the new housing.
If you want to eliminate that elbow (it can leak over time), here is the replacement hose without the elbow.

The radiator fan is controlled by the computer-based on the following inputs:
- engine speed
- load
- driving speed
- intake air temperature
- coolant temperature
If you haven't replaced it yet, the symptoms you describe can be corrected with the replacement of the thermostat housing.
