Direct from MINI Factory, original new part HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. This High Pressure Fuel Pump is located in the engine bay, next to the fuel rail. MINI specifies new mounting bolts when servicing the high pressure fuel pump.
Some Symptoms of failure can include hard starting, rough idle, to complete stoppage of the engine.

Tightening torque
N14 High pressure pump (M6): 11 ± 1 Nm
N18 High pressure pump Continental (M6 Hex): 10 Nm
N18 High pressure pump Bosch (M6 Fillister): 12 Nm
NOTE: The Fuel Pump for the 03/2012-03/2014 has been replaced by the fuel pump for 03/2014+, but requires an additional adapter (G2NME6118) when installing on 03/2012-03/2014 models.
Select accordingly.

The HDP is driven by a mechanical connection to the intake camshaft with a maximum fuel delivery pressure of 120 bar (1,740 psi) at full load. Idle is about 50 bar (725 psi). The ECM controls the volume control valve in the HDP.

I agree the hpfp is overpriced, but I suspect it has to do with a very limited production part with a limited application.
If the part is covered under warranty, it will typically not include labor. They will usually offer a product replacement.
