Join the modern era and ditch that finicky points distributor once and for all! These electronic distributors are more consistant and offer a maintenance free option for your classic British car. In most cases they look identical to the original points distributors but offer the reliability of fully electronic ignition modules that are contactless. In general, electronic ignition offers more reliability, higher power, and more accurate and consistant spark than points type distributors.

NEGATIVE EARTH ONLY..Reproduction CONTACTLESS Distributor suitable for modern day fuels for 850 and 998cc pre 1974 with upgraded rotor arm "Negative earth only". A worn out distributor can cost you both performance and economy. Precise spark timing and distribution is the job of the distributor. Merely replacing the points and condenser will not fix the chronic problem of worn out bushes and shaft. These look like the originals apart from vac unit which has later push on connector.

Most A-Series cars had a vacuum advance distributor, only the Cooper S 12G2140 distributor had a full centrifugal version. The vacuum is designed to retard the timing under heavy load thus decreasing the chance of detonation. These units are guaranteed to out-perform your old tired version. The best test is to put a timing light on your car and watch as timing marks on the flywheel dance and bounce around as the engine changes speed, etc. Install a new distributor and try it again!! All the bounce will never go completely away as long as you are driving the distributor through a timing chain gear set to the crankshaft. Timing is ideally set by the crankshaft and thus unless you setup a "crank-fire ignition" some bounce will always be present! As little as possible is the best we can hope for!
NEGATIVE EARTH ONLY. Cooper"S" 23D distributor, no vac unit-This is NOT THE ORIGINAL LUCAS ITEM but a new contact less electric copy of 40819. Fitted with the better Red rotor arm upgrade. Cheaper than many electronic ignition kits. For Pre-A+ engines.

Fitted all Cooper S models but some MK3 "S" were fitted with 41033-23D type--(Note:25d type distributors have a Vac unit.)-This distributor has more advance curve similar to the 41033 (Mk3 "S") which was better for acceleration and economy.See graph on web site from Peter Baldwins rolling road. The 41033 or 41732 Cooper S mk3 distributor was replaced with a 45D type BAU1850 by Rover less a vac unit which fitted Canadian 998cc minis and Marina 1.3 HC engines, but it was never a true replacement part for the Cooper S Mk3. This is why 12G2140 MK1/2 "s"distributors found their way on these cars.

Also fitted to in line engine 1275 Sprite and Midget the 40819 is 7 degrees btdc static and 22 degrees @1200rpm dynamic timing--centrifugal advance in degrees @rpm was 0-3 @600/--6-12@1000/-- 11-15 @2,000/--22-26 @5,200/

28-32 @7,000
Negative ground only -  A+ 59D for any 1275cc with vac unit with modern day driving curves and petrol available. Distributors can 'work' long past their useful life! Replacing points and condensor is NOT rebuilding a distributor. If you want to get the most from the performance of your engine a very good distributor is a must! Replaces any metro 1275cc engine in a Mini or Metro--See ADU3825 for Type with contact breakers.
A Plus Negative earth Vacuum Distributor for any 998cc from 1980 on.

From 1982on 998cc were fitted with a ballast coil which means a new wire must be fitted from fusebox top left terminal where there is a large white cable to the red wire on distributor. Failure to do this or incorrect wiring may destroy module and void warranty.

The modern demands of fuel economy and performance with the very poor petrol available today often makes a "vacuum advance" distributor a must.

Original points type was fitted from 1989 on for use with original lead free head engines but this covers all.
Electronic Ignition distributor, fitted as standard to all 1300 Carb Cooper models. Also Metro 1275cc engine.

Replacement service items for this are:

Cap is GDC156, rotor arm is GRA2143.
The ULT0131 distributor demonstrates the best of all worlds. Built in electronics means long lasting, high performance, low maintenance operation. Performance advance curve (Aldon type) makes this ideal for all high performance street motors, while the use of a vacuum advance module allows for maximum low end performance with the best fuel economy! Can be easily adapted to any A+ engine with a simple two-wire installation.
A 'no compromise' Mini engine requires a no compromise distributor. The ULT0132 electronic distributor is just that! The electronic circuitry results in a perfect spark every time for extended periods. The performance advance curve (Aldon type) allows you to get the maximum from your engine while the full centrifugal advance (no vacuum) delivers the best in performance!
The ULT0133 is the ultimate classic distributor for all early model engines (pre-A+). It incorporates a vacuum advance module for optimum low end performance and fuel economy with a high performance advance curve. The advance curve has been optimized to provide the ideal spark timing for any engine that has upgraded performance expectations. This is a direct replacement/upgrade for the early 25D range of distributors.
To wire this distributor: the module has 3 inline terminals. Do not use the middle one. Hook up the coil negative wire to the pin farthest from the module's center, the "outside" pin. Hook up the coil positive wire to the pin closest to the module's center, the "inside" pin.
Remanufactured stock distributors are good as new at half the price for your MINI. As a distibutor wears out the control of ignition timing is increasingly difficult. While it is an easy project to replace the points and condensor, the distributor shaft and bushings that is worn will result in poor running, lower gas mileage and could even cause hard starting. One of the best methods to determine the condition of your distributor is to simply use a timing strobe light and watch the timing mark on the flywheel at verious RPM's. It by the very nature of a mechanical system will show a 3 to 4 degree 'bounce' of the timing mark. As the distibutor wears out, this bounce could get to the point that it exceeds 10 to 15 degrees.

To maximize power and economy potential from any engine, burning the compressed fuel/air mixture at precisely the right point throughout the engines entire rpm range is essential. This ‘point’ is generally somewhere before the piston reaches TDC on its power stroke described in degrees - i.e. 10 degrees BTDC.
