EXTREME STREET TURBO UPGRADE

The JMTCs Super S turbocharger was designed with the street and track enthusiast in mind.  We started with our huge 50mm compressor and upgraded 9-blade lightened high flow turbine to give you full boost quick and a huge amount of power at the top end.  We also designed it to maintain the quick response of the original turbo, deliver much more torque and power (as much as 100 hp, more with other upgrades!)

This turbocharger not only delivers high torque in the low to mid-range but you will also see a power increase at higher RPM.  No torque or power loss like you see with the original small 43mm turbo. If you are looking for a great street, track, or strip upgrade that delivers full race performance this is the turbo for you.

Manufacturer requirements:

For engine and turbocharger reliability reasons JMTC requires a 3" or larger exhaust (from turbo to exhaust tip, no exceptions). As well as installing a new oil line and one step colder spark plugs. Tuning is not required but will be will help the turbo and engine reach their full potential. Refurbished turbos do not come with a wastegate actuator.

Why a 3 inch exhaust?

This turbo requires a full 3” exhaust because the compressor is larger than OD of the stock 2.5” exhaust. This means that the turbo will be damaged if you don't size the exhaust correctly. If you choose to ignore our recommendations or take advise from someone that does not know or manufacture our products, then you will be subject to the repair costs associated with this bad decision.

In other words don't make the mistake of listening to your friend that has a turbo on his car, mechanic that installed a turbo once, and /or the salesperson that sold you the turbo said it would be ok. We (JMTC) are telling you that it will not! They also will not be reimbursing you the cost to re-install or refurbish the turbo due to their bad advise. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INSTALL THIS TURBO ON A CAR WITH A EXHAUST SMALLER AT ANY POINT THAT 3INCHES!!!!!!!!!!! This means any and all portion/s of the exhaust, you cannot have a 2.5” downpipe and 3” exhaust, a 3” downpipe and 2.5” exhaust, or a connection point that goes from 3' to 2.5” and back to 3”, The exhaust needs to be 3” from the turbo to the tip - no exceptions!

Installation Notes:

  • If you are replacing a failed turbo, correct any and all issues that contributed to the failure of the turbo.
  • Prime the Turbo when installing
  • Perform an oil change just before servicing the turbo, and again shortly after.
  • Do not re-use an old Oil Supply Line - install a NEW line!
  • Refurbish or replace the catalytic converter to eliminate any unusual back pressure built up from years and miles of contamination.  This is especially important if you've had a catastrophic turbo failure that dumped oil into the exhaust. Unusual backpressure will severely shorten the life of any new turbo.
  • We recommend oil changes at around 5k miles interval to keep the oil fresh.
  • Let the engine idle for a couple minutes after a long or hard drive to cool the turbo and prevent the oil from coking in the bearings.
  • ECU Tuning is not required but will allow the turbo and engine to reach their full potential.

Turbo Compatibility

Turbo compatibility is based on engine types. The engine type changed with the 2019 model year where all models were 'refreshed' or received a 'facelift'. These updated models are called the LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) models or the post facelift models. Below are the changes with the engine designations:

Cooper non-S models with the 1.5 liter 3-cylinder engines:
pre-facelift up thru 2018 model years - B38/B36 engine
post facelift from 2019 model year - B36C engine

Cooper S models with the 2.0 4-cylinder engines:
pre-facelift up thru 2018 model years - B48 / B46 engine
post facelift from 2019 model year - B46C engine

JCW models with the 2.0 4-cylinder engine:
pre-facelift up thru 2018 model year - B48 engine
post facelift from 2019 for F56 Hardtop and F57 Convertible - B46D engine
post facelift from 2019 model year for F54 Clubman and F60 Countryman - B48E engine

Can you confirm if this turbo upgrade fits a 2017 grand tourer with a running b48 engine? My car is not a mini but a grand tourer 220i F46/ running b48 engine.
Answer:
Sorry, we are not able to confirm the fitment of our G3NME2806 Mini Cooper Super Turbo upgrade on your 220i with the B48 engine. We specialize with Mini Cooper and do not have access to the BMW cars for testing. Although this turbo may physically fit the 220i, we have no idea how the computer will handle this turbo on the 220i.

What’s the step-up upgrade turbo for 2008 Mini Cooper S 1.6 l turbo??? And how much power can I get from adding a bigger turbo and bigger intercooler , I got beat by a Mazda speed running on alcohol e85
Answer:
There are several turbo upgrades available for your 2008 R56 MINI Cooper S Turbo:

JCW turbo upgrade
Super 42 turbo upgrade
GTDominator turbo upgrade

If you are only planning on a turbo and intercooler, you should probably go with the first choice where the typical gains are around 20 hp.  You may be able to see similar gains with the Power Module.

Question:
Have you seen this upgrade on any F56 yet? Looking to get it done but struggling to get someone to tune it properly with a automatic transmission . Is there a big difference in the mini cooper s transmission vs the jcw transmission because I found a good deal on a jcw transmission if it can handle more torque and horsepower

We don't have specifications on the Cooper S vs JCW transmission to answer your question regarding the higher capacity with the JCW.
