Fits:
2002-2006 R50 MINI Cooper and R53 Cooper S Hatchbacks
2005-2008 R52 MINI Cooper S Convertible
NOTE: The hole at the bottom of this filter will appear much smaller than the shaft in the filter base - this is NORMAL and CORRECT. If you press the filter into the base, the hole will 'stretch' over the shaft. This is a design feature to ensure a tight seal so the oil does not bypass the filter.
Factory manual recommends replacing the sealing washer when changing the oil. Since the washer is not available separately from the drain plug, we've created a convenient kit to include the filter with drain plug and sealing washer.
Filter change tips: It helps to 'loosen' the canister a bit when you drain the oil to help drain the filter (for less mess). Make sure you replace the o-ring with the new one supplied with the filter - apply a coat of fresh oil on the o-ring when you install it. Use the new drain plug with the new sealing washer.
If you have an early MINI built before 07/2004, take a look at this article regarding the different oil cannister cover design.
For additional protection, take a look at our Magnetic Oil Drain Plug.
To reset the oil change interval in your MINI, see oil service reset.
See NMK1078 for the original factory replacement filter with factory drain plug.
For this MANN filter without the drain plug, see NME1056.
For an economical 4-pak of this MANN filter with plug, see NMK1175.
For a tune-up kit that includes this MANN filter, see NMK1130 for the Cooper and NMK1134 for the Cooper S.
Remember to use sythetic motor oil. MINI recommends 5W-40 or 5W-30 FULL SYNTHETIC motor oil.
Tighten the drain plug to (18 ft-lb). Start the engine and check for oil pressure. Don't forget to check for leaks too!
And darn it, dispose of the used oil and filter properly, please. And wipe that oil off the drive before you track it into the house!
