Press Start button
Wait until the Car / relevant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
Continue to hold - the system will run a dash light check
Continue to hold
Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
After another second or 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol
You Are now in the Service Menu
Release both buttons on the Rev Counter - and complete the rest of the procedure with the BC button alone
Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Oil Reset or Rear Brakes
To Reset the warning indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the relevant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.
Turn Off and On the Ignition again - Warning should now have gone!
Here is another procedure posted by "A" below (Thank you "A"):
Start the ignition and wait for the service info to go out.
Then press and hold the right button.
The first service item should appear after 10s on the display.
Release the odo-reset button and keep the button on the light stack pressed.
Now "reset?" should appear below the service item.
To reset, press AND keep the indicator tack button once more.
During this time a clock will appear. Some seconds later the procedure is complete.

Changsha69, the oil service interval is based on the type of driving your MINI experiences. The typical interval on the MINI is anywhere around 15k-20k miles so I suspect you do a lot of freeway driving.

Going Crazy, sorry to hear of your issues.... Unfortunately, we do not have any other procedures other than what is listed. I'm afraid you may need to visit your nearest MINI dealer for this....

The procedure to access the reset function worked fine for me, however when I did the reset for the oil it reset to 22000 miles and 09/2017. When I try it again ti simply tells me that it has been set (rest with check mark) and does not allow me to reset to the proper interval, which I believe is 6000 miles. So, how do I reset to the correct values or alternately "zero it all out and then start over again? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2nd generation mini, just had mot n interim service with oil change. The indicator read 10/2012 despite it having had an oil service in 11/2012.
The garage today couldn't reset the service indicator so here I am trying it. All of your instructions work right up to the 'reset' function being displayed. I press the BC button and hold. The dash shows the little clock and I think it's working... But no! The same red oil light comes on with 0 miles and 10/2012
Please help, crazy lady is going crazier.

The reset procedure above may be problematic for some because it is a little ambiguous. At the point in the procedure where it states: "You are now in the Service Menu" you should release both buttons on the Rev Counter - and complete the rest of the procedure with the BC button alone. This is not made clear in the instructions above and might explain why for some owners the procedure does not work.

Yahoo! A procedure that finally works. I've been driving with that stupid brake light for over 20,000 miles. We replaced them ourselves.

came across a thread that you have corresponded with another gentleman and you seem to be the only person who understand Mini's. I just purchased a 07 Cooper for my daughter and the brake light keeps coming on. I replaced the front brakes and sensor and reset the service interval setting. I noticed that after a few miles the front brake service interval mileage setting has gone from 10k to 600 miles in just a few miles. I again reset the brake service interval setting to 25k and after a few miles the service mileage was now at 6k. After a few miles the service interval mileage is not at 600 miles again. BMW has twice checked the computer and found that everything was operational as it should be. Might you have any suggestions?

The one with the car not-running also works fine ... only diff on my '07 R56S is that instead of
"After another second or 2 the display will show the FRONT BRAKE Symbol"
it's the "oil-can" (oil-change) symbol that comes up first for me ... thanks, all --

The official procedure is actually simpler than this: Start the ignition and wait for the service info to go out. Repeat for all service items you want to reset.
PS: For the brake pads you need to replace the sensor in order for a reset to be possible, unless the sensor has not worn at all.

This does not work for the 2008 Mini Cooper Hardtop (non-turbo). The VIN menu displays first, then does the dash light check. I let go of the right button when the time shows again for a second and then hold it down again. Then all that happens is the same thing it did in the beginning. Any help out there?
