Be careful when asking for Brake Upgrades.  Brake upgrade can mean different things to different people.  For the average street driver, brake upgrades can mean better durability (more miles) and / or less brake dust.  For the street performance driver, brake upgrades can mean shorter stopping distances.  For the track driver, brake upgrades can mean reduced brake fade and improved brake feel in addition to shorter stopping distances.

Any time the Brake Wear Indicator light comes on in the dash, it's time to replace brake pads and rotors.  If you are looking to upgrade the rotors on your Mini, here is the application guide to help identify the correct rotors for your MINI.

Upgrading the Brake Rotors is one of the first steps in improving the performance of the brakes in your MINI.  The combination of drilled and/or slotted rotors, performance brake pads, and racing brake fluid can delay the onset of brake fade under extreme conditions.  These are a cost effective 'direct bolt-on' alternative to installing Big Brake Kits.

MINI recommends that you replace the rotors with each pad change
.  A lot of people are used to 'turning' the rotors and use them for at least another set of pads, however 'turning' the rotors on an already worn set results in a significant reduction of 'mass' - which equates to heat dissipation capacity.  This means the 'turned' rotors won't have the same capacity to dissipate heat as when they were new.  The net result is the 'turned' rotors will overheat sooner and the higher temperatures means they will be prone to warping (which produces a pulsing when braking and reduces braking efficiency).  Bottom line - you should replace the rotors when installing new pads.
