Question:
Hi. I've called you a couple of times already, but I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. I have a stock '58 Morris Minor 1000.I'm trying to figure whether to go with the 1380cc or the 1275 but will my existing gearbox fit either engine? I welcome any suggestions about how to make my car a bit more competitive on todays roads. I already have disc brakes and good suspension. I am used to SU carbs, never had Webers; can the specs be changed to take SUs if we go that route, the 1380HP?
Answer:
No, not really. The smoothcase gearbox isn't a good fit for the 1275's. It would be best to get a ribcase gearbox for any 1275, no matter how bored over.
Hope that helps

Question:
I have a 1974 Midget. I want to give the 1275 a lot more power but I don't know where to start. I am not going to race it. It is just for fun. I own a '76 that is done but is nutless even with a Kent Cam, weber, header and Monza exhaust. I was thinking of adding a supercharger too so can you point me to products you have for a complete rebuild. I want to add a new cam, crank, rods, heads, valves, lifters, pistons, flywheel, the works. I don't know what parts would work best with each other or would be best with a supercharge or not. I want the engine reliable and cool running in the end. Your thoughts for the best engine for me?
Answer:
Thanks for asking, let me share a few thoughts.Your objective is pretty common. You should note that a stock '76 Midget cam with a 1500cc Triumph motor that only put out 56HP. We offer no parts for Triumphs and thus also no advise. As for for your 1275 my first suggestion is that I would NOT suggest a supercharger upgrade when you also wont a reliable and cool running car.
Looking at your list of other potential upgrades (" I want to add a new cam, crank, rods, heads, valves, lifters, pistons, flywheel, the works") I would suggest a more cost effective proven direction would be for you to simply order one of these: https://www.spridgetmania.com/part/1380HP_INLINE/1380-Cc-hp-High-Performance--Sprite--Mg-Midget---Morris-Minor

Question:
I have a 1972 MG Midget and it needs a power upgrade.
Do you have the 1380 cc performance engines already in stock? Are they custom-built to order? If so, can I make changes to the listed setup? (ie. different color engine paint, different carb, etc.)
Answer:
We don't stock engines as they are all built to order. You can pretty much have one built as custom as you like. We can either have you send us your engine to rebuild or we'll use a core of our own. However, if wanting to go to a 1380, it's imperative that the core be standard (not already over-bored) since 1380's require offset boring and anything already .020" over or larger generally don't make good cores for this process.

Question:
I'm looking for and Classic Mini HP engine and 5-speed transmission for a 1959 Austin Healey Bugeye. HP Engine the best thing that you have that will fit. I want power but I don't want it to look like it.
Answer:
The HP engines are our higher end engines we offer online - however, we can build just about anything on the A-series engines. Full custom builds are what we do. If you're looking to keep a stock "sleeper" look, then the HP is the way to go, you can always bore the engine out for more power, the 1380HP_INLINE is good for about 115 horsepower (and can go higher with some add-ons)
